about me:
Hi everyone! if you are here, then you probably know who I am.
I am Holly Neal. I have been teaching for 5 years. All that time in third grade! I just love third grade. I love the concepts that I teach. I love the age and maturity level of the kids. Seriously, third grade is awesome!
I grew up in Orlando, Florida, home of the Happiest Place on Earth, Walt Disney World (WDW). My dad was a monorail driver for 25+ years and my mom worked in transportation and merchandise. It was there that my love of all things Disney was cultivated. To this day, I still tear up when I see a Disney movie or hear the voice of Walt Disney saying, "To all that come to this happy place, welcome!" If I wasn't a teacher, I think my dream job would be a tour guide for families visiting WDW.
I graduated from College of the Ozarks in 2009. I didn't start teaching right away, instead I started out as a long-term sub for several teachers in our district who were having babies. I believe that was the best preparation I could of gotten. I was able to learn so many different strategies for discipline, and teaching. This really prepared me for when I finally got my own class in 2010. It made my first year very memorable, and didn't experience so many pitfalls of a first year teacher because I had the experience of a long-term substitute to guide me.
Looking back, I think my need to be with people probably came from spending all that time in the park. I am a very social person and find myself with friends all the time. It was through a friend that I met my wonderful husband, Micah. We married in August of last year, still newlyweds. How he manages to put up with me and my craziness I will never understand. I am so disorganized, I lose my keys at least 3 times a day, and we won't even talk about where my cell phone is right now.
We bought a house at the same time as planning a wedding, like I said, I'm crazy. It's a cute little three bedroom house that is already full. I already had two pugs, Tucker and Charlie, and we adopted our cats, Louise and Atticus at the end of the year, so we filled up the bedrooms pretty quick.
In my free time, (there's a lot that right?) I like to read or travel. One day I hope to visit all the states of America. We are also really big nerds. You might find us at home watching a Star Trek episode, catching up on Doctor Who, or even just reading. My husband also likes to work on projects so our house is covered with different things we might start on and then forget about as we move on to the next project. It will all get done eventually right?
That's me in a nutshell.
